Robotic Process Automation
ENGIE is at the forefront of robotic process automation (RPA) having successfully implemented this innovative software in its first local authority context at North Tyneside Council.
What is it?
RPA is computer software that is programmed to replicate human data processing activities.
How does it work?
RPA is positioned above existing IT infrastructure meaning that existing interfaces and systems can be repurposed. It is code-free; no formal software project is required. It is also non-invasive, so the security and integrity of the current applications is fully maintained.
What are the practical applications?
RPA replicates what its human counterpart would do; however unlike its human equivalent, the virtual workforce is able to perform information processing continually without a break and consistently. The applications for robotic automation are wide ranging and easily scalable; any definable, repeatable, rules-based process can be automated.
Typically, it is being successfully applied to carry out routine back office processes, in functions such as finance and accounting, human resources, customer service and procurement – improving efficiency, cutting costs, and raising productivity and quality in tasks ranging from data entry, to payroll processing and online transactions.
What are the benefits?
- Fast, low cost, transformational change: process automated within one to two months with total payback within a few weeks.
- Upskilling of existing workforce and removal of mundane tasks allowing staff to focus on delivering value-added, customer focused services.
- More efficient, faster service to customers.
